Paper Air Planes in Space!

Tokyo University is planing to launch a paper airplane from a space shuttle. The project is very exciting and gets about 300,000 dollars in funding every year. The only thing standing in there way right now is a reliable way of tracking the airplane once it is launched.

The plane is not made of conventional paper, instead it is a sugercane paper, covered in an epoxy to make it heat resistent aswell as waterproof. The paper plane has been in a wind tunnel and is said to withstand speeds of mach 7 and temperatures of up to 446 deggrees fehrenhieght.

Profits almost double

Bombardier has recieved a record amount of plane orders this year. As a result of this profits have gone upto 218 million from 112 last year. The profit margin on planes has also gone from 4.8 to 6.7%.

More delays

Flight tests of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 passenger airliner have been postponed from to May.

“The Superjet 100 project is a family of medium-range passenger aircraft developed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau in cooperation with major American and European aviation corporations, including Boeing, Snecma, Thales, Messier Dowty, Liebherr Aerospace, and Honeywell. “

The company planes to sell around 700 superjets; 35% to North America, 25% to Europe, 10% to Latin America and 7% for Russia and China.

Models getting cut

Bombardier will stop producing the model q200 and q300 of the Dash 8 plane. The q400 will still be produced at the downsview plant. The cancelation of these two models is attributedc to a market trend of higher capacity planes. The q400 already has 300 orders.

Bombardier reports a profit, and tightens the screws on the federal Government. Bombardier is asking for the gov to invest more into the CSeries project. The Government has stated that it is not willing to invest more than the original 350million. The project is worth 3.2billion dollars, if the government will not pony up more cash, Bombardier has threatend to build the plant in the States if more cash is not offered

Bombardier aims to expand again!

Bombardier has said at a meeting Tuesday that it plans to expand its role in China. Currently the huge Canadian company employees 4000 Chinese workers, this is expected to expand. This venture is a partnership between Bombardier and China Aviation Industry Corp.

Bombardier & Goodrich landing gear have finally settled there case with SAS (Scandinavian Airlines). The settlement is said to be in the range of 163 million dollars. The incident that set this off was a landing gear failure that grounded all of SAS’s Q400 aircraft. This occurred twice as a result of two separate landing gear issues.
